North South Foundation was incorporated in 1989 as a non- profit
organization in Illinois. The Foundation began with a scholarship program
in India to help those bright students among the poor who cannot dream of
a college education. With the generous help from the community, the
Foundation has been able to increase the number of scholarships from one
in 1989 to nearly 170 in 1997. North South Foundation provided over 700
scholarships to eligible students with poor economic status. Currently the
scholarships are administered from six centers: Bangalore, Calcutta,
Delhi, Madras, and Hyderabad. In the US, the Foundation promotes
excellence in education among the Indian American children by conducting
spelling bee and vocabulary
contests in 18 centers across the country.
Scholarships are awarded to the top six national winners.
